HBox

A while back, Experience Fix featured the Chanel Mobile Art Container (click HERE) and now, arriving inside London’s Tate Modern Turbine Hall is another gorgeous capsule of art, H-Box, this time from luxury French fashion house Hermés. Designed by artist and architect Didier Fiuza Faustino and based on the concept of the camera obscura, the interior of the slick, shiny H-Box features a state-of-the-art screen projecting a rotating series of video art from eight contemporary artists. This travelling aluminium circus will jet-off to the Yokohama Triennale in Japan, so check it out in London while you can (3 July – 17 August) Visit: www.tate.org.uk / www.hermes.com

EatFlash

Riding on the wave of their runaway 2006 success The Reindeer, Bistrotheque restaurateurs Pablo Flack, David Waddington and Tom Collins launch a new temporary eatery, Flash. Opening between 01/11/08 and 19/01/09, Flash will literally ‘pop-up’ inside London’s Royal Academy as an installation-within-an-exhibition… and it will of course be serving up delicious food aswell. Coinciding with the Royal Academy’s GSK Contemporary season (a series of new exhibits, film screenings and live events), Flash will consist of an eccentric dining room space (featuring a constantly-evolving collection of art works from a variety of high-profile collaborators) and a sophisticated Californian/French menu. ‘i-am’ looks forward to this exciting new addition to the West End dining scene. As pioneers of compelling brand experiences, ‘i-am’ are always on the look out for new and surprising design and architectural inspiration, and this month’s new Artist’s Playground exhibit does not disappoint. This contemporary mixed-media art affair is taking place in the sprawling grounds of Sudeley Castle in Gloucestershire, and features new site-specific work from Tom Dixon, Zaha Hadid and Carsten Höller, as well as a handful of emerging artists.

The exhibition revolves around the theme of ‘Play’ with Kevin Francis Gray’s eerie tree-dweller installation and a mind-bending mirrored labyrinth from Jeppe Hein (pictured) fitting suitably within the semi-ruins of Sudeley. The Artists’ Playground is at Sudeley Castle, Gloucestershire (01242 604357) until Oct 31.

Chanel’s Art Container

June 9, 2008 · Leave a Comment

‘I want to be part of what’s happening’ Coco Chanel once said, so no doubt she would be proud of this revolutionary travelling art project comissioned by Karl Lagerfeld for the Chanel brand. The jaw-droppingly sexy Zaha Hadid-designed structure features twenty exhibits from prolific international artists, who were given a brief to create works based around Chanel’s back catalogue of iconic handbags. This combination of an international premium brand, a visionary architect and a team of celebrated artists has created one of the most magical luxury brand experiences for years, with a trip to the pavilion likened by one visitor to being trapped inside a lavish Chanel commercial! Now that’s got to be worth a try. Here at ‘i-am’ we’re very much looking forward to the art container’s touchdown in the Big Smoke later this year…

Mobile Art will travel from Hong Kong to Tokyo, New York, Los Angeles, London, Moscow and Paris over the course of two years. Keep up to date here: www.chanel-mobileart.com
